Whispers

So hubby and I were with browsing through Marshall's the other day. Hubby and big kid and little man and I split up. Before we left, hubby said that big kid saw a couple of girls he knew from school. Friendly as usual, big kid said hi. They said hi back but hubby said one of the girls said "oh he's the .... " and began to whisper. Awkward moment. Hubby tried to linger to eavesdrop but he couldn't hear them.

I'm glad it wasn't me with big kid. Mama lion would have come out and question the little girls. It really bugged me for the rest of the afternoon. My big kid was " the boy that...." WHAT? What was so secretive? What did they have to say about big kid?

On the one hand, I'm thankful that big kid is naive. He doesn't know if someone is laughing at him or talking about him. But I need to protect my cub. I MUST. When does a mother let go, and let our kids fight their own battles or let them experience things?
