"Bestest Mom"

Today was big kid's Spring Concert. For two weeks, he's been uber excited, each day asking me, "You're coming to my Spring concert, right?" I wouldn't miss it for the world! As much of a ham as big kid is with the family, he gets a little stage fright.  Thankfully he has his own personal cheer leaders to show support at each concert.

The class sang "Bestest Mom".  Big kid never really participates in rehearsal at school. He rarely shares the songs that he sings. He did sing a little bit of the song but I thought it was something he learned from a show.  Little did I know that he was singing the song from the concert.

I may be a tough cookie on the inside, but gosh darn it, I am the biggest softy when it comes to the boys. We took two videos, but I'll share the better one with you that daddy took in the front of the stage. The one I took, you can hear little one whining and my MIL telling me not to cry.  HA!!!

My big kid gave me a special shout out by pointing at me during the performance.  Can you say, waterworks? A flood of tears came down.  A parent in front of me, said, I remember him, he's so cute. He's always happy up on stage.  Last time he took a bow. Wow. Parents I don't even know remember my lil' rock star.

Hey big kid: From the bottom of my heart, I love you. I wouldn't be the "Bestest Mom" without you.  MUAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

Holiday Kickoff

Thanksgiving is the kick off to the Holiday season. So much has happened in the past year. This time last year, pollito was out of the hospital after having Kawasaki Disease. We were scared and nervous. I wanted my sweet, inquisitive baby Flash back. Soon after it was evaluation after evaluation for big kid with a diagnosis of Autism. Fast forward, more months of IEP meetings, evaluations and he was finally accepted into a non public school.  Last Sunday we were fortunate to have a VIP Autism friendly visit to Santaland at Macy's Herald Square. I didn't tell big kid we were going to see Santa, I told him it was a surprise. Well the surprise wa on me, when he refused to take a picture with Santa, not even with me, pollito or his dad. Valentine's Day - Special Needs Edition

It's been a while since my last post. It was actually last summer! A lot has happened since then. With new seasons comes new changes, and a new world we are living in.   Fast forward it's now February and big kid just turned 13! I'm still in shock.  Not only do I have a teenager, but I have a teenager who has a "BFF" and said "BFF" is his Valentine!  He's been talking about his BFF for a few months now.  It started with a text from his teacher telling me that big kid felt sad that he didn't have any friends.  (You can only imagine my heartache to hear this).  So the teacher suggested that he talk to all of his classmates and see who he has things in common with.  Well, that day he came back to the teacher excited and announced that he now has a BFF and that she has a lot in common with him. Weekend Getaway - Without the Kids

Memorial Day Weekend Getaway without the kids - Whaaaaat???  (LATE POST) Since we've had the boys, we have not gone away on vacation without them as much as we would have liked.  I can't believe it's been about 7 years since it was just hubby and I. We love our boys.  Don't get me wrong, but this vacation was way overdue.  As a special needs parent, it's never the "right time" to get away for too long.  The mom guilt kicks in. We didn't completely unplug from my kids.  We called them daily, but it was nice to be able to do what we wanted, when we wanted without having to cater to someone else's needs.  To some it may sound selfish but what it truly is - SELF CARE.  See, we cannot be someone's support system if our own foundation is cracked.  Which means, whether it's an hour to get a mani/pedi or a spa day or a getaway, we all need some time to take care of ourselves.  We too, need.  Need to be cared for, need to relax, need to be...
