Valentine's Day: The Evolution of Our Love

Valentine's Day celebrations have evolved in our house over the years. In the beginning, it was flowers, chocolates, dinners, dates, etc. We celebrated love like most people. Then in 2004, two days before Valentine's Day, we celebrated love with the birth of of Big kid. Our love had grown. This was Love 2.0. We now celebrated the love of us and our little being. Love was different, but love was love. In 2011, two and a half weeks before Valentine's Day, we celebrated the birth of Pollito. With all three celebrating birthdays two and a half weeks before Valentine's Day, things evolved yet again. The love didn't fade, it enhanced.

Did it change somewhat? Yes. Dinner dates, flowers and chocolates became day dates and early nights. Handmade cards from two princes and chocolate (that never changed!) was our celebration of love. But love is celebrated everyday in our house. It's not just the one day of the year to show your appreciation and admiration. It comes in forms of kindness, daily hugs, kisses and cuddles, telling each of your loved ones that you love them at least once a day. It comes in forms of daily massages (thank you honey!) even when he doesn't want to because he knows it makes my tense shoulders feel better. Love comes in form of laughter. At least once a day we make each other laugh. Hubby's goal is to make me laugh every day. Most days, boy does he work hard for it (sorry hon!) but he goes to bed knowing he made me laugh. So love had evolved. Especially when you've been with someone for a long time (17 years!). Love comes in form of poems, silly dances, reading and re-reading the same books at bedtime. Listening to the little ones tell us knock-knock jokes or telling us about their day.  Love comes in the form of 4 paws (or 8 in our case).

Love takes work. Love is supporting each other in the good times and the bad. Love is trying new things together, taking a leap in exploring each other's hobbies which could lead to a new found hobby, or confirm that you're just not into it. Love is giving it a try/chance. Love is celebrated every day in small ways. This Valentine's Day we celebrate our love of movies, laughter and superheroes. This may not be romantic for some, but it is for us. I get to spend time with my best friend, watching a movie of something that he loves. I'm not always on board with his choices of movies but most times I watch them and learn that, I too, enjoy them and become a fan.

This Valentine's Day we will be watching Deadpool. Can't wait! He gets to watch a superhero and I get to watch eye candy, lol. But seriously there will be tons of action and laughter with my love and best friend. I can't think of a better way to celebrate (full disclosure a beach getaway would be also awesome, just saying!).

They say "happiness is where the home is". For me, "home" is anywhere that my boys are. Happy Valentine's Day!

To my two princes: I love you today. I love you tomorrow. I love you forever and ever. The end.

To my fur babies: love you both to the moon and back!

To my partner, friend, love: I love you and thank you for loving me.
