One Chapter Ends, A New One Begins

I think Shakespeare said it best in Romeo and Juliet "Parting is such sweet sorrow." Today was big kid's last day at school.  It was bittersweet. The outpour of support and love from the staff and kids was overwhelming.  

 His teacher made his last day truly special. She got him a present (a dinosaur of course!).  Big kid was truly liked and loved there.  I mean, sheesh what isn't there to love????? 

 Aside from his current teachers, his old para and new para where there, IEP teacher, Security guard, Assistant Principal, Speech therapist, his 2nd grade teacher, psychologist, counselor and art teacher.   The love was grand.  The most special part was the kids.  His classmates wrote him several cards expressing how much they will miss him.  That was the icing on the cake.  The kids were just a pure joy. One kid even gave him $1 as a present.  I pray these kids continue to be sweet and caring and not get jaded in this crazy world.  

 We're taking a leap of faith tomorrow.  Starting a new school. So far, everyone's been amazing at the new school. Communication has been excellent. I wish my baby all the best tomorrow.  I can't believe i'm still bawling right now. 

 Tomorrow is a new day.  New everything.  I wish you the best my love bug.  Cheers to new beginnings, big kid.  I love you today. I love you tomorrow. I love you forever and ever.  The End.

Holiday Kickoff

Thanksgiving is the kick off to the Holiday season. So much has happened in the past year. This time last year, pollito was out of the hospital after having Kawasaki Disease. We were scared and nervous. I wanted my sweet, inquisitive baby Flash back. Soon after it was evaluation after evaluation for big kid with a diagnosis of Autism. Fast forward, more months of IEP meetings, evaluations and he was finally accepted into a non public school.  Last Sunday we were fortunate to have a VIP Autism friendly visit to Santaland at Macy's Herald Square. I didn't tell big kid we were going to see Santa, I told him it was a surprise. Well the surprise wa on me, when he refused to take a picture with Santa, not even with me, pollito or his dad. Valentine's Day - Special Needs Edition

It's been a while since my last post. It was actually last summer! A lot has happened since then. With new seasons comes new changes, and a new world we are living in.   Fast forward it's now February and big kid just turned 13! I'm still in shock.  Not only do I have a teenager, but I have a teenager who has a "BFF" and said "BFF" is his Valentine!  He's been talking about his BFF for a few months now.  It started with a text from his teacher telling me that big kid felt sad that he didn't have any friends.  (You can only imagine my heartache to hear this).  So the teacher suggested that he talk to all of his classmates and see who he has things in common with.  Well, that day he came back to the teacher excited and announced that he now has a BFF and that she has a lot in common with him. Weekend Getaway - Without the Kids

Memorial Day Weekend Getaway without the kids - Whaaaaat???  (LATE POST) Since we've had the boys, we have not gone away on vacation without them as much as we would have liked.  I can't believe it's been about 7 years since it was just hubby and I. We love our boys.  Don't get me wrong, but this vacation was way overdue.  As a special needs parent, it's never the "right time" to get away for too long.  The mom guilt kicks in. We didn't completely unplug from my kids.  We called them daily, but it was nice to be able to do what we wanted, when we wanted without having to cater to someone else's needs.  To some it may sound selfish but what it truly is - SELF CARE.  See, we cannot be someone's support system if our own foundation is cracked.  Which means, whether it's an hour to get a mani/pedi or a spa day or a getaway, we all need some time to take care of ourselves.  We too, need.  Need to be cared for, need to relax, need to be...
