School Bus Strike

Starting tomorrow NYC school busses will go on strike. 152,000 NYC students take the bus to school. 54,000 are Special Needs children. This is going to be a nightmare.

How does this affect big kid? Well the AM is not so much a problem. I can walk him to school. After checking the status of his bus route, looks like his morning bus won't be on strike but there is a new bus company, new matron and driver that big kid has to get to know. Mid year change. His PM is the challenge. Big kid goes to my mother's house after school which is 5 miles away from the school. I work on the city. Hubby works on Westchester.

Plan of action: hubby will take his lunch hour to pick up big kid from school, drop. Off at my mothers and return to work. Lets pray they resolve this before tomorrow or by the end of the week.

This means more gas, more wear and tear on our car.

The DOE promises to reimburse us. Yeah, I'm sure we see the money as early as June.

I will say that we don't have it as bad as other parents who are either single parents or do not have the budget not the flexibility. Worse are those whose children go to schools in different boroughs or counties.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

For those who will need to get reimbursed for taking car services or using your own cars, please click on this link.
